Terri I. Cooper

Terri I. Cooper, EdD, For Deeper Learning Board member, is Superintendent of Regional School Unit 21 (Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel), in Maine.

Dr. Cooper’s goals for RSU 21 are ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all students to develop into inquisitive and productive citizens; integrating high-quality programs supported by innovative instructional strategies; and implementing cost effective strategies to ensure fiscal responsibility.

Superintendent Cooper works towards creating an inclusive learning and working culture. One of her initiatives for fostering a diverse district climate is RSU 21 connecting with potential teachers and other employees, nationwide and worldwide. She also co-chaired an RSU 21 50-person Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ad hoc committee.

Previously Dr. Cooper was principal of River Gate Elementary School, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Charlotte, North Carolina and Principal of Sun Valley Elementary School, Monroe, North Carolina, Terri Cooper started her career as an elementary school teacher, serving 10 years in Richmond and Union counties in North Carolina. She was Director of Employee Support Services for Union County, overseeing the district’s mentor, beginning teacher, recruitment, substitute, Fair Labor Standard Act and unemployment programs and activities.

Dr. Cooper has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a Master’s degree in Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wingate University.
