For the sake of a functioning democracy, students need to develop critical thinking for problem-solving and decision-making – reflecting on what they know about a topic, asking thoughtful questions about it, and connecting to relevant resources to find answers.
Yet even many college graduates do not use evidence to build a logical argument (Schneider, 2017).
Including a one and half or two week inquiry learning unit with your curriculum, supports your students’ effective intellectual agency, while providing enlivening variation in learning mode.

Lee Anna Stirling, EdD (Teachers College, Columbia), is For Deeper Learning Founder, President/ Executive Director, and Editor-in-Chief, Deeper Learning Journal of Practice.
